Fifty years of Earth science
The Department of Geology and Mining, University of Rajshahi — the pioneer of geoscience teaching in the region.
History
Established 1975
The department began in 1975 to train the geoscientists who would map, explore and manage the country's mineral and groundwater resources. It is regarded as the pioneer of Earth science in the region and among the largest geoscience departments in Bangladesh.
Its research runs on three pillars — groundwater, natural hazards, and mineral resource development — pursued from five laboratories, a geological museum, and a landscape that is itself a field station: the Barind Tract begins at the campus edge.
